Editing Services

Fiction Editing Services offered by LitLiber:

All manuscripts received by LitLiber must be presented in MSWord format: 12 pt Times New Roman font with one inch margins.

Developmental (Substantive): This is a big picture edit, which will focus primarily on overall story structure, plot and narrative arcs, character development, and organization.

Key elements included:

Plot holes and/or story consistency

Readability

Showing vs. telling

Point of view and perspective

Story projection (including exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution)

Overall suspension of disbelief

Character development and presentation

Dialogue (presentation and delivery to authenticity and reliability)

Pacing

Developmental edits will consist of comments inserted directly into the manuscript (up to and including example suggestions for rewrites) as well as a separate 3-6 page editorial assessment. The assessment will concentrate on areas of strength and weakness, the quality of writing, while also offering an in-depth, personal analysis on substantive elements within the manuscript—clarity, believability, and development of the story as a whole. Additionally, this package will include an hour long phone (or Skype) conversation with the author: to talk about general matters concerning the book and answer any residual questions.

The cost of this service is .007 cents per word.

LitLiber will offer a complimentary SAMPLE EDIT at client request.

Line Editing: This type of editing is micro—it focuses on every word in every sentence. It’s less focused on the story as a whole, rather the scene as it relates to itself. As such, editing will focus primarily on sentence structure, word choice, syntax, aesthetics and stylistic expression.

Key Elements Included:

Scene/setting development and imagery

Awkward and clumsy word choice/phrasing

Care of story continuity

Rhythm and pacing

Dialogue—conversational vs. forced, consistent vs. convenient

Transitional flow

Understandability—clearing up confusion, misunderstanding, etc.

Scene projections (including exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution)

Subplot analysis

Line Editing will be provided both as comments in the manuscript (up to and including example suggestions for rewrites) as also as a separate 1-2 page editorial assessment. The assessment will concentrate on areas of strength and weakness, and offer a personal analysis on scene-by-scene clarity, believability, and development. Additionally, this package will include an hour long phone (or Skype) conversation with the author: to talk about general matters concerning the book and answer any residual questions.

The cost of this service is .004 cents per word

LitLiber will offer a complimentary SAMPLE EDIT at client request.
